This is a unique translation of the first section from Guy Debord's classic anti-capitalist text, The Society of the Spectacle, meant to re-present the ideas and poetry of the original language in an approachable manner for contemporary people and people who are intimidated by theory.

It's only 23 pages long and includes prose, poetry, pictures, and sometimes characters. The book is comprised of original text sourced from the English Society of the Spectacle published by Black & Red in 2016 on the left and  a completely new text on the right, while a brand new translation sits somewhere between the two in the middle. I consider this a work of poetry, as acts of translation are. Theorizing, as an attempt to describe the world, is also an act of translation and is thus also poetry. So, if you are confused or unsure, my only advice is to sit in that space and contrive you own translation of the text and the world before you.

From the catastrophist's note:  …this re-presentation is intended to offer another approach to understanding the theory. Maybe it is an easier route, but maybe not. It is all my hope that the particular way this experience is crafted will prove helpful to demystify inexperienced readers of theory by speaking plainly about what theory is, how it is made, and how it is read.

I expect there are typos or misspellings here or there, and would appreciate comments that point these out. I will update the booklet if I notice enough of them.
